Charlotte’s Web
Overview
The history of this strain is surreal. The dream is birthed in Colorado when the Stanley brothers offer to create a high quality hemp strain to help a young girl by the name of Charlotte Figi. The young girl was suffering from severe intractable seizures that would be as frequent as 300 episodes in a day. After using this High CBD treatment, the frequency of the seizures reduced to a few in a month and Charlotte was able to lead a near normal life.
Her story later became a sensation and has been a driver in the push for cannabinoid based therapy. Unfortunately, Charlotte Figi passed on earlier this year in what was considered a COVID-19 related death. Her legacy lives on through this legendary strain that she helped popularize.
Charlotte’s Web is one of the most popular hemp strains on a global scale. It’s also among the first strains to have such lofty CBD levels.
This strain is a high CBD medical strain that has a range of medical applications. The Colorado growers created this strain by crossing an unspecified strain with industrial hemp. The effectiveness of this strain in treating Charlotte’s seizures has helped to catapult this strain to celebrity status.
Charlotte’s Web is behind powerful high CBD strains such as Cannatonic. Having limited psychoactivity, Charlotte’s Web is favored as a medicinal hemp strain. The CBD content runs from 15 to 20% which is 300 times higher than the average strain.
Charlotte’s Web hemp strain is available as a concentrated CBD oil for easy medical ingestion. You may also find buds being sold if you prefer the more traditional way of consuming hemp. Hemp cigarettes made from Charlotte’s Web are becoming popular as well.
The appearance of this strain is very much sativa like. The flowers are long with tapered buds and olive green leaves. The pistils are few and far between and you will sense the absence of THC laden trichomes by the reduced stickiness. The smell is dank and piney at the same time. Cherry-like undertones can be detected from a distance. The taste is grassy but can be improved by adding different flavors to the CBD products.
Charlotte’s Web seeds are not available for commercial sale. When clones are available this strain is easy to grow. The plants have a bushy, indica-like appearance. They flower within 8 to 9 weeks and usually offer a high yield.
