Mississippi Medical Marijuana: What You Need to Know
Republican Governor Tate Reeves signed a bill to legalize medical marijuana in the state of Mississippi. This bold initiative makes Mississippi the 37th state to legalize medical marijuana in the U.S to date.
The Mississippi program is getting up and running, but still has a ways to go before patients will be shopping at licensed dispensaries. According to the state, the MSDH (Mississippi State Department of Health) anticipates that cannabis products will become available to patients in late 2022 to allow time for cultivation of marijuana in the state and required safety testing.
Dispensary Applications:
The Mississippi Department of Revenue will begin accepting Medical Cannabis Dispensary Applications on Tuesday, July 5, 2022, 8:00 a.m. CST. All potential applicants should visit www.dor.ms.gov/cannabis for important information, including an updated checklist of requirements to assist in the registration process.

The Mississippi Medical Cannabis Act (MMCA) allows patients who have a qualifying debilitating medical condition to be certified by a MDOH credentialed medical cannabis practitioner. The patient will be issued a written certification which will be sent to the MDOH along with the patient’s application for a medical cannabis Registry Identification Card.
This lays out the steps for patients:

4) Patient receives an Electronic Patient ID card valid for 1 year.
5) Patient can now shop at any open and licensed dispensary in Mississippi.
